Cleaning and acidifying quartz glass

Hydrofluoric acid, or HF acid, is used to etch quartz glass and, depending on the concentration, can be used both for cleaning, bright etching or matting. It is the most commonly used etchant in semiconductor production, where it is used to remove silicon dioxide, among other things. Deposits and fume are produced when fused quartz is processed. Immersion in a vat of hydrofluoric acid removes these impurities – resulting in a high-purity quartz glass product.

The glass is heated high-but below the melting temperature-now atoms can move into position.

This process creates stress-free fused silica.

Evacuating (extracting the air from a hollow chamber) is used to improve thermal insulation- e.g., in double-walled vessels.
By applying a vacuum pump, air is pumped out of the double jacket, when this process is completed, the jacket is sealed.

Mounting is the joining of two glass tubes by means of the flame.
Attachment also allows two tubes of different diameters to be joined together, also NS cuts can be attached to a different tube diameter.

Glass products are cut to the right size on a grinding cutting machine.

On a rotating faceplate, special abrasives are used with the addition of water, e.g., to grind a bottom, clean edges or grind flat surfaces (flange).

NS grinds are ground in on a rotary grinding machine for accuracy of fit.

With waterjet cutting, the material is separated by a high-pressure water jet (up to 6,000 bar).

This cutting process is gentle on the material and allows for very flexible shaping.
